microcontroller.Thedesignofthesystem
includesseveralMicrochipanalogcomponents,aswellasaPIC
®
microcontroller
usedtoprovideisolatedvoltagefeedback.Themaincomponentsofthesystemare
showninFigure1-1.
Theunitiscapableofoperatingfromanyvoltageuptoamaximumof48V(average)
and58V(peak).Itisthereforesuitableforuseonaverywiderangeofapplications.
Theseincludeconventionalcommercialandindustrialapplicationsrunningoffupto
48VDCsupplies,aswellasautomotiveapplicationsincludingthenew42Vbus
standard.ProtectionisprovidedforaccidentalreverseconnectionoftheDCinput,as
wellasformotorandwiringshortcircuits.
Thecontinuousratedinputcurrentis15A(RMS).Thecontinuousratedoutputcurrent
fromtheinverterisalso15A(RMS).Thisresultsinthemaximumoutputpowerbeing
linearlyrelatedtotheinputvoltage.Approximately400VA/300Woutputmaybe
achievedwhenrunningfroma24DCinputvoltageuptoa30°C(85F)ambient.Thus,
thesystemisideallysuitedtorunningquitelarge3-phasebrushlessDCmotorsor
specialistinductionmachineswoundforoperationatlowvoltage.Thepowermodule
iscapableofdrivingothertypesofmotorsandelectricalloadsthatdonotexceedthe
maximumpowerlimitandarepredominantlyinductive.Furthermore,single-phase
