andSmartBatterySelectorundersingle-chipcontrol.
Thehardwaresupportsselectionandchargingofuptotwoindependant
batterypacks.ThePICREF-5ReferenceDesignincludesmanysafety
featuressuchasPIC16C73Acontrolselectionofasinglebatterypack,so
thattheunselectedbatterycannotbeactiveonthebus.Thiseliminates
crosscontrolandcrosscommunicationsituations,whichmayleadto
unexpectedoperation.Asanaddedsafetyfeature,thermistormonitoringis
alwaysavailableonbothbatterypacks,regardlessoftheselectedbattery
pack.
Immediateswitchingofthepowersourceisimplementedbyuseofthree
diodemodeoperation.IfACpowerortheactivebatterypackisremoved
fromthesystem,thereisnoswitchovertime.Theselectoralsosupports
end-of-dischargedetectionofthebatterypack,sothatswitchingtoan
alternatepowersourceautomaticallytakesplace.
Thechargercanactasamastertoinitiatecharging,whichallowsthe
