The Middle Ages lasted from the beginning of the Anglo-Saxon invation to the end of the War of Roses. It can be further divided into two periods: The Old English Period from 449 to 1066, and the Middle English Period from 1066 to 1485.We can say English literature actually began with the Anglo—Saxon
