This first chapter is intended to present an overview of the topics covered in the eighth edition of Understanding Automotive Electronics. The primary goal here is to explain the organization of the topics covered and to identify the chapter in which each of the subjects, including electronic systems, subsystems, and individual components, and their associated technically detailed theory are presented. For certain readers, there are some subjects that are redundant to their backgrounds.
